A Paragraph With The Mariners – 108

I’m not gonna promise that I’ll write one of these articles bitching about the Brandon League/Morrow trade every time League melts down and costs us a very winnable game or every time Morrow does something spectacular and shows why he was such a high draft pick and why it was so stupid to give up on him so early in his career … but I’m also not gonna promise that I WON’T write one of these bitching articles either!  HEY, did you know that Brandon Morrow is now 9-6 with a 4.45 ERA after his 4th consecutive win and also after his ERA was at a season-high 6.80 back on May 21st (not counting the first three games of the season when two bad games inflated it beyond comprehension)?  HEY, did you know on the season Morrow has struck out 151 in 127 innings while only walking 57 (which, if you didn’t know, wildness was supposed to be his weakness … also used to be a weakness of one Randy Johnson, and I think he turned out to be an okay pitcher in the majors).  Oh, HEY, did you also know that today, against Tampa (one of the best teams in MLB), Brandon Morrow had a no-hitter with 2 outs in the 9th inning before giving up a single through the hole to Longoria?  Oh, HEY, did you know he struck out 17 batters today?  Out of 31 total batters faced!  In fact, this year, Morrow has struck out 8 or more batters in 11 games out of 22 started.  HEY, the Mariners have Brandon League though, a guy who’s not closing games but potentially could in the future maybe.  Yeah, Jackie Z, I think I’m ready with my opinion on the League/Morrow trade:  we got screwed on that deal.
