It’s pretty rediculous that I’ve gone this long without talking about the Tacoma Rainiers. You know, the team that’s 1 win away (with 3 games remaining) from the Pacific Coast League 2010 Championship? That team? Yeah, the one with Justin Smoak, Dustin Ackley, the since-shut down (for precautionary and not injury reasons) Michael Pineda, and a guy by the name of Greg Halman who would be an absolute MASHER … if he didn’t set the world’s record for most strike outs in a season, every season. Did you know we have some talent in the minors? Did you know that – according to the Gas Man on KJR 950 – every one of the Mariners minor league teams made their respective post seasons? See, this is why I don’t want to see Jackie Z get shit-canned. LOOK at what he’s done in such a short time! We went from one of the worst farm systems in baseball to probably one of the best. And no, I don’t want to be known as rooting for the team with the best farm system; inevitably, I’d like to be known as rooting for a major league ballclub that goes to the playoffs and contends for World Series championships. Well, to do that, you need some of these farm guys to pan out. To save money you would otherwise have to throw around on the free agent market. I mean, yeah, the Yankees spend more than anyone else. But, they also brought up enough talent through their system to make it possible to over-spend in areas where their farm lacked. We don’t have their bankroll, so we’re even more at the mercy of our farm. From the looks of things, we’re headed down the right path. Let Jackie Z finish what he started!
