The Mariners just won all three games of a three-game series on the road for the first time since early 2009. I can’t begin to tell you how amazing that sounds to me. Unbelievable! Inconceivable!
Ever since we started 4-11, we’ve gone 7-4. Granted, Pineda and Hernandez have accounted for 5 of those wins, but still.
Speaking of Pineda, he’s made 5 starts and all of them have been Quality Starts. After this morning’s game, he’s 4-1 – easily the best record on the team – and he’s got a 2.01 ERA. Whatta mighty mighty good man.
Justin Smoak has been absolutely on FIRE this year – and especially in this 3-game sweep of the Tigers. His OPS now stands at near 1.000, he leads the team in homers, and he’s starting to look like an honest-to-goodness prospect who’s about to make good on all that promise. Look at his production in the sweep of the Tigers: 4 for 11, 1 double, 2 homers, 8 RBI, 2 walks, and 3 runs scored. That there is a First Baseman of the Future … TODAY!
As for everybody else, what can I say? They managed to get their average with RISP up to .219 – which is like a 30-point spike since the last time we looked at it 3 days ago – and they scored 24 runs. In three games. The Mariners. The SEATTLE Mariners. THESE SEATTLE MARINERS!
You know what I like? Surprisingly, I like Miguel Olivo batting in the 4-hole. Jack Cust is a flailing out waiting to happen, Smoak is doing well in the 5-hole so why mess with a good thing when the kid is still young, and Bradley’s fragile little mind couldn’t POSSIBLY handle hitting cleanup. But Olivo? He’s got just the right amount of confidence in his abilities. Or, you know, just the right amount of brains (or lack thereof) to know he’s not supposed to be anywhere NEAR a team’s 4-hole (no matter how many times I write it, “4-hole” still sounds dirty). Stick him in there! He’s a veteran, he knows how to handle the hard wood, he’s not afraid to muck it up in there (okay, now I’m just going too far with this).
Anyway, I thought I’d just comment on such a monumental feat, in case it never happens again this season. M’s Sweep! M’s Sweep!
M’s Win A Day Game! M’s Win A Day Game!
