Seahawks Are Busy, Extend Cliff Avril

4 years, $28.5 million.  Looking like the exact same deal Michael Bennett signed before this season.  Just a day after they lock up K.J. Wright, the Seahawks secure another potential offseason target prior to the season’s end.

You could look at what I said about K.J. Wright and just copy/paste it into this post.  I like the deal for being reasonable.  I like having Avril around for another four years potentially.  I don’t necessarily like in-season extensions, but it’s not a huge deal.

What changes is this is one less thing to worry about in an offseason where the Seahawks will be looking to extend Russell Wilson and Bobby Wagner.  Both are still obviously signed through next year, but given their performance and value to the team, it’s time to reward them at our first opportunity.  So, while we’re working these two deals out, we don’t have to worry about Wright or Avril being wooed by other teams.

After Wilson/Wagner, the next-highest priority is probably Byron Maxwell, but he’s not TOTALLY essential.  He’d be a coup, no doubt about it.  But, if we can’t lock him down, it’s not the end of the world.

Good times.  Now, let’s go out and kill the Cardinals.
