Dude was out of his MIND last night. 7 for 10 shooting, 4 for 7 from three, 6 for 6 at the line = 24 points in 23 minutes. Amazing.
Oh, and by the way, he did ALL of his scoring in the second half.
This was kinda the game I was looking for; I’m pretty sure the biggest lead was no bigger than 7 points the entire game. Lots of back-and-forth. In the first half, it was ridiculously close as neither team really got on that roll. Coming off that 17-point first half debacle against the Cougs, you had to wonder if this team had plum forgot how to score!
Fortunately, the defense never quit, forcing the Bruins into 18 turnovers. And, for the first time in seemingly fucking forever, we got to the free throw line! At home! Who knew this was actually possible for this team? 28 attempts, 20 makes. I will literally take that in every game we play for the rest of my life.
There aren’t a whole lot of non-Wilcoxian performances to highlight from last night (after all, IT only had 9 points, MBA could only muster 7, and Holiday a measly 5), but I would like to point out a couple guys from the other team: Reeves Nelson and Tyler Honeycutt.
Nelson was held to only 13 points (0 in the second half) on 4 for 13 shooting. Honeycutt was even worse, with 6 points, all at the line. These are two NBA-calibre players that we just shut down for our first impressive win since late-January!
I’m not ready to say we’re back just yet (I’d like to see our Big 3 have at least ONE Big Game before I go so crazy), but this was a huge first step. Now, let’s not blow it against the Trojans on Saturday.
