Ichiro Passes Edgar

I would be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge the feat that happened in last night’s ballgame.  In the 9th inning, Ichiro was at the plate whereupon he hit an infield single to take the lead over the A’s.

Well, I don’t know if anyone grabbed that ball for posterity, but that was the single that broke the Mariners record for most hits by a Mariner.  Edgar had 2,247.  Ichiro now has 2,248.  OUTSTANDING!

I didn’t realize he was so close to the record.  Still, I’m glad he DIDN’T break the record last season.  I wouldn’t want any more silver linings for that shitty season except for Felix’s Cy Young (which I STILL can’t believe he actually won).

Hats off for Ichiro!  The greatest hitter in Mariners history!  It only took him a decade (actually, exactly a decade, as he broke in with the club on April 2, 2001).
