Washington @ Stanford: The Biggest Pac-12 Game Of The Year (So Far)

Granted, it’s not like there are any other “big” games to compare it to this year, but that’s because for the most part, games don’t start getting truly BIG until you’ve had a few conference games under your belt first.  Yeah, if Oregon and Stanford played in the very first week, that would be a big game, but it would also be retarded because a game that early should never define your season!

Anticipation ...

It’s hard to compare this game to other important games UW has had the past couple seasons.  Is this game bigger than the Apple Cup last year?  That game got us to our first bowl in nearly a decade.  Is this game bigger than Nebraska in the Holiday Bowl?  That gave us unmeasureable exposure and probably landed us some quality recruits who will go on to help us in years to come.  Is this game bigger than the USC victory in 2009?  The Trojans were the 3rd ranked team in the nation at the time, whereas the Huskies were coming off of 0-12.

I don’t know how to quantify these things.  If the Huskies lose, then it’s pretty much just like any other game we’ve lost in the past couple seasons.

If the Huskies win, however, HOO doggies!  That might vault this game straight to the top!  We would be undefeated in the Pac-12 North, we would have beaten a Top 10 team, AND we would have done it in their home stadium!  Factor in the hit Andrew Luck would take to his senior season (settling for an inferior bowl should they not make it to the Pac-12 title game) and I’m giddy just thinking about it.

Getting back to the title of this post:  obviously the Stanford/Oregon game in three weeks will be the showdown to end all showdowns … but who’s to say?  What if the Huskies DO win this game?  Wouldn’t that make the Washington/Oregon game in two weeks the most important game in the Pac-12 this season?

OK, I need to stop this.  But you know what?  It’s absolutely THRILLING!  The Huskies have a team that is legitimately good!  Our offense is off the charts, our defense is improving with every game, our quarterback is a surprise afterthought for the Heisman Trophy, we’re 1 win away from being bowl eligible after a string of seasons that have been nothing but struggles …. GAAAAAH!

And, I get to go to the game.  Yeah, it MIGHT be as bad or even worse than last year’s Stanford game in Husky Stadium.  But, something tells me that won’t be the case.  Something tells me our offense will be able to match them point for point, first down for first down, yard for yard.  Hell, we might even see Overtime in this game!

I’m giddy.  You have no idea.  Later today, I’m going to catch a flight down to the Bay Area, I’m going to party like it’s my birthday, Christmas, and Chinese New Year all rolled up into one.  On Saturday, I’m going to wear my purple and gold with an immense amount of pride (and trash talk), and I’m going to attend my very first-ever Husky away game.

I’m not even going to try to analyze this game.  Leave that for the experts.  I’m just here to tell you that this is a HUGE event, and we should all soak it in as much as possible.  From Palo Alto, or on your home television:  LET’S GET IT ON!!!
