While I was at Day 2 of Clusterfest, watching comedians ranging from Bill Burr to Tig Notaro to Hannibal Buress to Kyle Kinane to Pete Davidson to Chris Gethard to Joe DeRosa (while catching the stars of Broad City lead a reading of Wayne’s World – with special guest Tia Carrere – and a Les Claypool-led jam band), the Mariners back in Seattle played another baseball game. It’s like it’s never ending with these fakakta baseball games!
Ol’ Bruised Hand Cruz went 3 for 4 with a homer and 2 runs scored. Danny Valencia went 4 for 4 with an RBI and 3 runs scored. And Mike Zunino out-did them all by going 3 for 4 with a Grand Slam, a double, and 7 RBI! All while getting that batting average over .200, so good for him!
9-2 was the final score. The Mariners had all their runs by the end of the fifth, which is when they pulled starter Sam Gaviglio. 5 innings, 1 run, 4 hits, 0 walks, 6 strikeouts. Nothing out of this world, but I imagine they decided to pull him after that bottom of the fifth took so long to finish. Four relievers combined to go an inning apiece to close it out, with Diaz giving up a meaningless home run in the ninth to LoMo. I don’t know how I feel about that just yet.
Ariel Miranda gets a shot to lead the Mariners to a 3-game sweep this afternoon. I’ll be at Day 3 of Clusterfest, so of course I’ll miss out. Not that I’m complaining or anything.
